University of Leeds

The University of Leeds has been a pioneer of intellectual property commercialisation in the UK and was the first UK University to set up a dedicated technology transfer function. In 2002 it became the first university in the UK to outsource its technology commercialisation activities to Techtran, which was acquired by IP Group in January 2005.

The University of Leeds is one of the UK’s top ten universities for research. It has an annual (2005) turnover of some £340 million and annual research income in excess of £70 million. It employs more than 3,000 researchers. The most recent RAE national assessment of research standards confirmed the University of Leeds as one of the UK’s top ten research-led universities, ranked 7th nationally for the number of top scoring researchers.

The University of Leeds’s reputation for leading research spans the physical and life science disciplines. Amongst its centres of excellence are Biological Sciences, Chemistry, Clinical Laboratory Sciences, Computer Sciences, Earth Sciences, Civil Electrical and Mechanical Engineering, Food Science and Physics.
