Commercialising IP, business building and fund-raising

IP Group plc works in long-term partnership with leading Universities to commercialise intellectual property emanating from their research activities. Based in Bath, you will be responsible for identifying and evaluating IP, working closely with academic entrepreneurs to develop commercial propositions, forming spin-outs and working in the companies to help drive their commercial plans.

THE ROLE
• Work with academics to develop a commercial proposition, identify potential partners and licensees and provide hands-on assistance to the management teams of spin-outs.
• Develop financing strategy, prepare business plans and propositions to potential investors, help to close deals and assist with the legals.
• Prepare due diligence documentation and liaise with professional advisors, build relationships with potential investors, including VCs, business angels and government funding bodies.
• Market IP Group throughout the University and keep abreast of technical and market developments

THE CANDIDATE
• Technical/science graduate or PhD, preferably with some commercial / corporate experience.
• Well-honed analytical skills, with good commercial judgement and the tenacity to drive ideas into commercial reality.
• An understanding of the processes of bringing new technology to market with good working knowledge of patenting and patent law.
• An understanding and enthusiasm for corporate finance and venture capital.
• Good negotiator with an ability to communicate effectively among the scientific, business and legal sectors.
• A business qualification such as an MBA would be useful.
